Public Power Corporation (PPC) S.A. was founded in 1950 and is the largest producer and supplier of electricity in Greece (in fact PPC is generally the largest corporation in the country). The installed power capacity of PPC totals 12,500 MW throughout the country and produces about 35,000 GWh per year (figures 2015). It has 9 lignite mines, 15 main thermal power plants (and many smaller ones on the islands) that use lignite, gas and diesel fuel, 16 hydroelectric power plants and a number of photovoltaic and wind farms. It employs 11,000 employees and has 7.5 million connections (corresponding to 10 million customers). The annual turnover is around € 6 billion and total assets are € 17.3 billion.
PPC participates in the JAUNTY project through the PPC Innovation Hub, part of the PPC Group. Its activities include the provision of services not only to the units of PPC Group but also to third parties. The services provided include tests in its laboratories, accreditations, research, inspections in the areas of PPC Group, instrument calibration, specialized studies, applications and analyses, specialized consultation studies as well as materials’ and general equipment inspections for quality control of existing and under purchase items of all types of installations. The operation of the PPC Innovation Hub is not limited to the coverage of PPC needs. On the contrary, it is extended so as to satisfy the needs of high scientific level and specialized requirements for the wider Public Sector as well as for Industries and craft industries both in Greece and abroad. It should be noted that the PPC Innovation Hub is able to implement with safety and reliability the totality of its activities mentioned above not only in its installations, but also on the products and on-site in the customers’ premises. The PPC Innovation Hub is accredited by the Hellenic Accreditation System (E.SY.D) according to ISO 17020 and ISO 17025 standards. ESYD is a founding member of the European Accreditation System. In order to maintain E.SY.D accreditation, the PPC Innovation Hub is subject to strict and regular thorough inspections by E.SY.D which monitor not only the mode of the PPC Innovation Hub operation but also evaluates the tests and inspections realized by it, in terms of the reliability and the accuracy of their measurements.
